DEMETRIOS GALANIS ( 1870-1966 )
Born in Athens, Galanis was to be come the foremost Greek artist of his generation. He moved to Paris in 1900, thereafter taking French nationality and becoming a friend and associate of Pablo Picasso. He exhibited regularly in Paris and further afield, alongside such eminent artists as Braque, Chagall and Matisse.
His book illustration is often surprisingly muted, if meticulously executed and appropriate to the accompanying literature.
